Rosa Arroyo has recently been sworn in as a new American. She registered to vote in Phoenix on October 2 with the community group ACORN, and she will be voting for the first time on Election Day.

She came to this country in search of economic prosperity and to raise her children in a society where they have the opportunity to succeed. Despite the looming economic crisis, Rosa remains optimistic about our country's ability to bounce back. Through voting and making our voices heard at the polls, we can help our country respond to the economic challenges we face.

"This country has given me the opportunity to make a living, raise a family and to find happiness, she says. "Today I am registering to vote as a citizen, and in a month I will vote for the first time and join others who want to keep the possibility of an American dream alive."

Rosa considers herself lucky to have a job that provides her with benefits but worries about the high costs of higher education and medical insurance co-payments. She is very focused on economic responsibility in order to provide a better world for herself and her children.

"My children are healthy and want to continue their education," she says. "I hate to think about when I'll have to tell them that I can't afford to send them to the school of their choice."

"I hate to think people my age are accumulating so much debt for our children and grandchildren. It seems we've lost touch with reality when we're so used to using credit cards for things like groceries. Our kids deserve both a family and government who care about their future."

Rosa is looking forward to voting on Election Day and making her voice heard.
