New citizen and first time voter, Luis Martinez, is worried about the economic future of his children and about his job security. He's not yet sure who he will vote for, but Luis is hoping that whomever he votes for offers solutions for the reeling economy. That's why, as a recently sworn-in US citizen, he has registered to vote, checking the box that says "US Citizen" on his voter registration form.
"Unemployment rates are getting worse in my community and crime is also getting more common," says Luis. "I tell my kids to stay in school and to really excel in their studies."
Luis knows people in his company who have been laid off or had their hours reduced from full time to part time and he worries that he could also lose his benefits. His family is very important to him, and he wants to vote to create a better situation for his family today and vote for a better future for his children.
"Right now two of my three kids live at home and it is really expensive to provide for so many people on one income," says Luis. He acknowledges that health care and the economy are in peril and wants answers for improving them.
Luis is listening carefully to the candidates' plans on healthcare and the economy in hopes that he will hear real game plans, not just rhetoric, for providing relief for his family.
