Brittany Callaway spoke with us at William Horlick Highschool. She is 18 and will be voting for the first time this election.
Her immediate answer to "what issues matter to you?" is education. She is planning to go to college to study psychology. Her parents did not go to college, and already she knows the financing will be a major challenge. She currently works and is a fulltime student, as well as babysitting to save money for her education. She also mentions health insurance, jobs, and the war in Iraq as motivating factors for her voting. She has a cousin who has been fighting in Iraq "for a long time" and believes it's time to bring him home.
"I think this year is going to be big," she says. Brittany believes it's important to vote this year because of the changing face of elections: a woman and an African American as major party candidates. She believes her vote will make a change this year, and she encourages everyone she knows to vote as well.
