Lynncoyia Bradley is a lifelong resident of Cincinnati and grew up in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood. She was at a nearby mall earlier this year when red T-shirted ACORN canvassers stopped her and asked her whether she was registered to vote. She decided to register, with the help of ACORN.
When asked about her reasons for deciding to vote, Lynncoyia thinks of her nine-month old daughter. As a new voter and a young mother, she feels she owes it to her daughter to vote in this historic election year.
“I have to vote this time because this is history with an African-American candidate. I want to be able to tell my daughter that I voted in the election in the year she was born," she says. “I am excited about the election and how the candidates are different.”
Responding to changing circumstances around her and candidates that excite her, Lynncoyia has been getting more interested in participating in our democracy. She feels that the most important issues in this election are fixing the broken economy and making improvements to the health care system.
Lynncoyia understands economic issues first hand. Her mother lost her home to foreclosure in 2006. Then last year, her mother had a stroke.
“Previously, I felt like I didn’t know enough about the issues. This year, I know more and feel like I know more about the issues and the candidates and the different changes they are promising.”
